Roland de Wolfe is one of the fastest rising poker stars in the industry. In just a few short years, he has amassed a sizeable pot of tournament winnings. Considering the family he grew up in, it may have been in the cards all along.

Background

De Wolfe was born in 1979 in London England to a family that was intensely involved in gambling. Roland himself started wagering at a very young age. He started playing cards, usually five card draw, with his class mates. He took to gambling aboard the school bus.

By the time he was fourteen, he was betting on tennis with friends. As soon as he could get in the doors, de Wolfe learned to play pool for money. What is more, he became quite the hustler at pool and snooker. Sometimes, he even played with one hand to entice players to bet with him.

When he got older, he decided to settle down and take a journalism course at Brighton. This gave him an opportunity to put what he knew about gambling to good use. He took a job writing for Inside Edge, a magazine in Great Britain. The magazine covered the gambling industry, and it was de Wolfe’s job to write about tournaments.

As Roland de Wolfe traveled the world reporting on the big money poker tournaments, he became more and more interested in the game. He was a poker insider in many ways. He knew things about the game and its players that the average person would not get. He decided it was time to make his move.

He began studying and learning about poker on a personal level. His first attempts playing cash games at the Victoria Casino in London were not promising. Neither were his friendly games with his boss at the magazine. However, he decided to go on the internet to practice his skills.

As it turned out, de Wolfe played much better in tournaments. His aggressive style was better suited to that environment. He started entering the big tournaments in 2004. Yet, he did not have any significant wins in that year.

In 2005, though, he walked away with the World Poker Tour Grand Prix de Paris main event title. The cash was over $500,000. Also that year, he cashed in two other major events. One was the $1,000 No Limit Hold ‘em event at the World Series of Poker. The other was the $15,000 main event at WPT’s Five Diamond World Poker Classic.

The year of 2006 was a great year for Roland de Wolfe. The highlight of the year was his third place finish at the $25,000 WPT World Championship at the Bellagio. He took home over $1 million. He was also named UK player of the year in 2006.

De Wolfe won the European Poker Tour’s season 3 Dublin championship for a cash of over $600,000. With that, he became the first pro to with both titles: WPT and EPT champion.

Roland de Wolfe’s winning ways do not seem to be leaving him any time soon. He continues to cash in tournaments in 2007.

He plays online at Full Tilt Poker as one of their pros. With total tournament winnings so far of over $3.3 million, he qualifies to be part of the star studded line up of the Full Tilt Pro team.

He is cashing more than ever before and playing well. His years of experience are paying off.

Background

Robert Mizrachi was born in Sunny Isles Beach, Florida in 1978. He is the eldest of four brothers, three of whom are poker professionals. He learned poker at a young age and taught his brothers to play so that they could conduct games in his home.

One of Robert’s brothers is the famous Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi. Although Robert taught him to play and mentored him through his early years, he quickly exceeded Robert. Now Michael is considered one of the top players in the sport.

Robert really got into the game in a serious way when he became a dealer in a casino in South Miami. He studied the game from the dealer’s side of the table until he felt that he knew as much as he could learn in that way. It was not long before he could read people enough to understand what kind of cards they held.

Then, he was ready to play on the other side of the table. He became a player in his first tournament 10 years ago at Victoria Casino in London. He not only did well; he took first place. Yet, it was to be a long time before Robert Mizrachi had many great victories.

Poker Career

In 2003, he made up for lost time by taking second in a $1,000 No Limit Hold ‘em event in Atlantic City. To do it, he beat out an impressive group of players, including Full Tilt Poker ’s Chris Ferguson and Andy Bloch.

Mizrachi did even better in 2004, winning the Master Classics of Poker in Amsterdam. He took $500,000 home with him from that event. Things were looking up and Robert Mizrachi was ready for whatever came next.

In 2005, he cashed in four events in the WSOP. 2006 was a good year, too. Mizrachi won first in the $1,000 No Limit Hold ‘em and second in the $1,500 No Limit Hold ‘em events. This was in the Five Star World Poker Classic, and he took home over $135,000 combined earnings from the venture.

Also, in 2006, Mizrachi cashed at the WPT Mirage Poker Showdown in the $10,000 No Limit Hold ‘em main event and brought home almost $130,000. He rounded out the year by cashing in the Mandalay Bay Poker Championship $1,000 No Limit Hold ‘em event.

2007 was to be Robert “Who’s Bad” Mizrachi’s best year yet. He reached three final tables at the World Series of Poker. Better still, he won his first bracelet. He won it in the $10,000 World Championship Pot-Limit Omaha event, and brought in over $760,000.

Team Full Tilt

With total winnings of over $2.5 million dollars, Robert Mizrachi is doing just fine. Even though he has younger brothers, he is still a fairly young man. The way things are going, he could be one of the best poker players yet.

He plays online at Full Tilt Poker as part of the FullTilt Team, and is often available for games, instruction, and chat.

To most people Phil Ivey is considered the best player in the world. Even to those that disagree with that he would be in their top 5 list for sure.

This is an incredible achievement considering the fact that Phil is still in his early thirties, and that since bursting onto the scene in the 2000 WSOP just 7 years ago, he has collected an impressive collection of titles including 5 WSOP bracelets.

To this day Phil Ivey remains one of, if not the most feared opponents in the game, with an aggressive game and his trademark piercing eyes and stare.

Background

Phil Ivey was born in 1976 in Riverside, California but shortly after he and his family moved to the other side of the U.S to Roselle, New Jersey. In his childhood days Phil would play poker with his grandfather who taught him how to play, and it became a real interest for him.

If you see this avatar on Full Tilt Poker then you are playing with
Phil Ivey!

While Phil was still at high school he would play in adult poker games and wipe them clean, but he continued to try to improve his game and master what was becoming a big part of his life.

Despite being underage, at the age of 18 Phil began to go to Atlantic City under the alias of Jerome and his fake I.D. During the next few years and the late 90′s Phil continued to play at Atlantic City building a serious bankroll and working on improving his game.

At the age of 21 Phil, who was still known to all the poker community in Atlantic City as his fake I.D alias of Jerome apologised to all his friends and the management at the casino and revealed that he was not really Jerome, and from that day on he began to be known under his proper name. Little did he know that in a few years time the name Phil Ivey which he had spent so much effort hiding would become one of the biggest worldwide brands in poker.

Poker Career

Ivey first burst on to the professional poker circuit in 2000, when he took his game which he had been mastering for the previous years to the World Series of Poker. He made an immediate impact winning his first WSOP bracelet in the Pot Limit Omaha event and in doing so defeated two poker legends at the final table in Phil Helmuth and Amarillo Slim.

This would be the start of a successful WSOP career and he won two more bracelets in 2002 and his total currently stands at five bracelets. He has also done well in the WSOP main event over the years and finished in the top 25 in three recent years in 2002, 2003 and 2005 which considering the starting field for the main event in these years was anything up to 5,000 is a remarkable achievement.

After his WSOP win in 2000 Phil began to play in the big cash games in Las Vegas. He became a regular at these games and today he continues to play in the now famous “Big Game” at the Bellagio in Vegas where players can win or lose millions in a night.

Phil has to date collected over $5m in career tournament winnings including all his WSOP wins but also a $1million win in the Monte Carlo Millions tournament and a $600k win for the Full Tilt Poker Invitational which amazingly he won just 24 hours after the Monte Carlo win.

Of course the above figure does not include any cash game winnings and although there is no record of this it is likely to make his tournament winnings look like small change.

Team Full Tilt

Phil Ivey has been a pivotal part of Team Full Tilt and has been involved in the design and development of the popular online poker room. He plays online exclusively at FullTilt Poker and is usually happy to chat to his fans at the table while he is playing in some of the biggest cash games on the internet.

Gordon has achieved enormous things over the past 20 years. After earning his degree in computer science at Georgia Institute of Technology, he went on to become a millionaire during the internet boom of the 90′s.

He then spent the next five years travelling the world and amazingly travelled to over fifty countries in five continents and seeing sights that most of us can only dream of doing.

It was only when he returned to America after this 5 year trip of a lifetime that he turned his focus to poker.

Poker Career

The first major poker tournament he played in was at the 2000 World Series of Poker and during that year he cashed in two events. It was the following year at the 2001 WSOP that he was to really make his mark.

Phil Gordon!

In the 2001 WSOP No Limit Holdem event he finished an impressive fourth and collected a prize of about $400,000. As a result of this he was asked to appear on a documentary called ‘Inside the World Series of Poker’ and this was to be the start of a long and distinguished TV career.

He continued his tournament success by making a further two final table appearances at the 2002 WSOP in both Omaha and Limit Holdem events.

His next big TV appointment was when he was recruited to provide expert commentary at the 2003 World Series of Poker.

It was during 2004 that he got his first big tournament win when he won the World Poker Tour Bay 101 ‘Shooting Stars’ tournament and along with it $360,000. Phil then followed on from that with a further two WSOP final table appearances at the 2005 WSOP.

His total career tournament winnings up to the end of 2006 were over $1million.

Gordon continued with his TV career co-hosting the popular Celebrity Poker Showdown with Dave Foley and then went on to work with ESPN as the commentator for both the 2006 and 2007 Main Event live final table broadcasts.

He has also released a number of popular poker books and DVDs.

Team Full Tilt

Phil Gordon has been a member of FullTilt Poker‘s Team Full Tilt since the start and his celebrity status and poker ability makes him an integral part of the team.

He became one of the wealthier poker players in the business when he lost that heads-up with Jamie Gold in the 2006 World Series of Poker Main Event. Yet, as far as the game of poker goes, he has had bigger triumphs.

Background

Paul Wasicka was born in Dallas Texas in 1981. When he was a young child, he played soccer, backgammon and chess. Then, he turned seven, and his family moved to Boulder, Colorado. There were even more activities for him there. He started skiing and joined the chess club when he got to middle school.

In high school, Paul was an avid sports player. He was involved in five sports during that time. They were running track, cross country running, volleyball, skiing, and wrestling. He excelled at math and went on to the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

At college, Wasicka couldn’t seem to make up his mind. He started out in engineering. Then, he changed his major three times before dropping out altogether. He went to work in his brother-in-law’s restaurant as a waiter.

His first experience with gambling was an exciting one. He had gone to Vancouver to do some skiing. He put ten dollars down on a game of Blackjack and over the next five days he kept increasing his bankroll until, he was $17,000 to the good.

He asked to go with friends to an underground tournament in Denver in 2004. His friends had to explain some of the basics of the game to him. Yet, he came ninth in a field of 100. He went home and started playing poker online right away.

After some initial ups and downs, he decided to settle into the life of a professional poker player. This was when he discovered that his emotional side would have to be tamed if he was to make it as a pro. He committed to working as a restaurant manager for a year. Only then would he return to poker.

Poker Career

When he did, he quickly got some great results. His first big win was in 2006 at the Five Star World Poker Tour Classic Championship. He finished fifth and took home over $146,000. This was just a prelude to the big win that was coming.

Later in 2006, Paul Wasicka famously made a second place finish in front of millions of viewers in the years biggest poker tournament, the World Series of Poker Main Event. He earned over $6 million for his trouble. He was unsatisfied with the way the play had gone, though, and had to step back and make a new start.

In 2007, Wasicka was back in the money with a win at the NBC National Heads Up Poker Championship. His winnings were $500,000 but the win was what really mattered to Paul. He also made the final table at the L.A, Poker Classic. He came in fourth for a win of over $455,000. Also in 2007, he came 12th place in the Aussie Millions tournament.

Team Full Tilt

Paul Wasicka is a fairly young man who is single and has no children. He goes by the nickname of “Kwickfish.” He has cashed 11 times in major tournaments and has total winnings of over $7.4 million. As an avid online player, he enjoys the time he spends playing and chatting at Full Tilt Poker.

Max Pescatori has been a game player his whole life. So, it is not surprising that poker seems to come naturally.

Yet, along with his natural abilities, he has worked long and hard and has sought out advice from top poker players.

Background

Pescatori was born in Milan, Italy. There, he was such a fan of games as a youngster that he would opt to practice them rather than go in for any other form of recreation. He and his father played a game called “Scopa” in a tournament when Max was 11 years old. They won, and went home with the trophy.

When Max turned 15 years old, he learned the game of poker and found he enjoyed it very much. In 1994, he left Milan to go to the United States to play poker in Las Vegas. He did not even know how to speak English.

He had always been a 7 Card Stud player. He started out with that game. However, after playing for awhile, Pescatori discovered that he could make more money if he stuck to playing hold ‘em poker. He was playing cash games in Las Vegas in 1998 when he met Valter Farina. This was the only Italian to win a WSOP bracelet at the time.

If you see this avatar on Full Tilt Poker then you are playing with
Max Pescatori!

Farina mentored Pescatori for the next year. In 1999, Max became a poker professional. Along with live action, he played on the internet. In 2001, he earned a place in the World Poker Tour’s Aruba Tournament through an online poker site. He was on his way to the big time.

Just before the tournament, he met a few poker pros who had been playing for several years. He especially hit it off with Jennifer Harman. She even let him in on the cards she held when she was playing at a table with some of the best in poker. He took away valuable lessons from that experience.

Poker Career

In 2003, Pescatori won his first major tournament event at the World Poker Challenge in Reno. It was a $300 Limit Hold ‘em event. He won the Omaha Hi/Lo a few days later. He made 10 final tables in all in 2003.

In 2004, Pescatori was present at 8 final tables in the Ultimate Poker Challenge. He won the WPT Legends of Poker No Limit Hold ‘em event for over $106,000. The next year, in 2005, he did well at the National Championships of Poker, got second place at the WPT Poker Showdown and also came in 5th at the Omaha Pot Limit event among other events he tried at the WSOP.

In 2006, Max Pescatori won his first WSOP bracelet with a win of over $682,000 in a No Limit Hold ‘em event. He continues his winning ways with a win of over $135,000 for first place at the Italian championships No Limit Hold ‘em in 2007.

Team Full Tilt

Max Pescatori, known as the “Italian Pirate,” has total winnings of over $1.8 million. He writes for Card Player Magazine and is also spokesman for the World Poker Exchange. He likes to play games other than Hold ‘em when he can, and is often found playing at the tables of Full Tilt Poker as one of their pros.

Lee Watkinson has been around poker a long time. He started playing early and has not even begun to slow down.

In the meantime, he has put together some impressive performances at the poker tables.

Background

Lee Watkinson was born in 1966. He calls Cheney, Washington his hometown. It is a long way from Las Vegas in distance, but for Watkinson, it was the beginning of a career. He began playing poker there when he was only seventeen years old.

Watkinson went to college to study economics and he earned a degree in this field. In college, he was involved in the sport of wrestling. It gave him an interest that encouraged him to consider a certain kind of strategy. He continued to engage in wrestling up until a few years ago.

Another sport Watkinson has spent much of his time doing is surfing. This gives him a feel for maintaining balance in a constantly shifting environment. In this way, the sea is just like a poker game. An apt player is always seeking the best footing in a changing game.

Watkinson started playing poker in seriously around 2004. He earned the nickname of Lee “Sandwich” Watkinson. This referred to his habit of making “sandwich” raises that made life difficult for his opponents. When he played in the World Series of Poker’s $5,000 Pot Limit Omaha event, he finished second but this would be just the start.

Poker Career

Lee Watkinson was in for more winnings that year when he cashed at the World Series of Poker’s $10,000 No Limit Hold ‘em Main Event. Watkinson followed that up with a trip to the final table at the $10,000 WPT No Limit Hold ‘em Championship event where he came in second to Eli Elezra.

Right after that win, Watkinson made the final table again at a World Poker Tour event this time at the Legends of Poker $5,000 No Limit Hold ‘em event. He finished second again, but this time it was to the legendary Doyle Brunson. Considering the winner, it was no disgrace. In fact, Watkinson was named Player of the Year for 2004 by Card Player Magazine.

In 2005, Lee Watkinson cashed in the WSOP Main Event. He made 45th place with a prize of $235,000. In 2006, he won his first WSOP bracelet for the Omaha event, and earned over $650,000. In 2007, he was in the money at the World Series of Poker Main Event again. He finished eighth for a cash of over $580,000 which perhaps considering the starting field of many thousands is his biggest achievement to date. So far, his total winnings amount to about $3.2 million.

Yet, Lee Watkinson does not live solely for the felt. He has several business ventures going. He is involved in Rebel Yell records and The Hardcore Elegance jewelry line is one of his business interests. He is also CEO of Criminal Mind Clothing.

Team Full Tilt

Lee and his wife are involved in charity work, too. They work with the Brandenburg Foundation to help rescued chimpanzees that have been used in movies and research.

Lee Watkinson lives an extraordinary and full life. However, he still finds time to play poker online where he can be found at Full Tilt Poker playing and chatting with fellow FullTilt Pro’s and his fans.

He has earnt this reputation over the years with a whole list of big tournament wins and final tables that confirms his status as one of the best players in the world.

Background

John grew up in his family home in Medan Indonesia and was discouraged from gambling from an early age by both his parents. His father was a heavy gambler and would often lose large sums of money. During his childhood he spent long periods away from his parents as they worked setting up a business in another city whilst John and his brothers and sisters were looked after by his grandparents.

It was during these periods that John would often gamble at school, playing marbles for cash away from the watchful eyes of his parents.

In 1990 John left Indonesia to attend Oklahoma State University at the age of 19. It was here that he was introduced to Poker and from the first day it became a part of his life. He continued to build his bankroll whilst at university and supported himself by selling bibles door to door and trading stocks.

John graduated with degrees in Management and Marketing and by 1996 had build up a significant bankroll from Poker and decided to become a professional.

Poker Career

John quickly became a popular figure on the Pro circuit and was known for his quiet and calm approach to the game which was a pleasant contrast to a lot of players.

In 1999 he made two final tables at the World Series of Poker and at this point he started to be recognised as a serious player in the poker world. His first major tournament win came in 2001 when he won the World Poker Open Championship and then later that year he won his first WSOP bracelet in the Triple Draw Lowball Ace to Five event.

John Juanda!

He was recognised for his achievements during the 2001 and 2002 seasons when he was named runner up in consecutive years in the Card Player – Player of the Year list.

In 2003 he went from strength to strength winning a further two WSOP bracelets and in 2004 he made 15 final tables. 2005 saw him take some big tournaments down winning $500,000 for his 1st place in the Monte Carlo Millions consolation tournament and also finishing 6th in the Monte Carlo Millions Main Event and 2nd in the Full Tilt Poker Invitational tournament.

Recently John picked up his biggest cash to date by winning the 2006 Aussie Millions Speed Poker Million Dollar Challenge winning $1million Australian dollars (about USD $750k).

John currently resides in Marina del Rey, California and in his spare time runs his own restaurant in between his poker adventures.

John Juanda is another early member of FullTiltPoker‘s Team Full Tilt and his advice and ideas have helped to shape the popular online poker room.
He graduated from Florida State University with a Finance major, but decided to go in another direction. He went to Miami to take a job as an Air Traffic Controller.

Cernuto took to playing hold ‘em on breaks. It was all very hush-hush because it was not allowed by management. The workers kept score quietly and settled up on payday. Cernuto knew that he was good, but he was not ready to leave his comfortable life in Miami.

That was when fate stepped in and changed everything. Many Air Traffic Controllers were fired by then president Ronald Reagan because of their strike. There was nothing holding John Cernuto to Miami anymore, so he packed up with his retirement fund and headed to Las Vegas.

After a false start, Cernuto moved back to Florida, and then returned to Las Vegas in 1986. He had a job with the Las Vegas Hilton to supply his needs while he pursued his poker dreams. In 1988, he got a taste of victory when he entered and won a $50,000 Stud tournament. Shortly afterwards, he gave up the Hilton job and turned pro.

Poker Career

In 1989, “Miami” John Cernuto made his first World Series of Poker final table. He finished fourth at seven card stud that year. He went on to cash five more times at the WSOP between then and 1996.

In 1996, Cernuto won his first WSOP bracelet. He came out on top in the Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo event, garnering a prize of $147,000. He followed that up the very next year with another WSOP bracelet win in the No Limit Hold ‘em event that came with a cash of $259,150.

In 2002, John Cernuto won his third WSOP title in the Limit Omaha event. This is not surprising, since he is considered one of the best Omaha Hi/Lo players in the business. In 2003, he won the Legends of Poker HOE event and he won the third World Heads Up Poker Challenge in Vienna that year.

In 2004, Cernuto won two Omaha Hi/Lo events. One of them was in the L.A. Poker Classic. The other was in the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Stars. In 2005, he kept up his professional status with a final table at the WPT Poker Stars Caribbean Adventure event.

2006 was another good year for Cernuto, making final tables in three WSOP events and participating in his other interest, the 2006 Ultimate Blackjack Tour. As of 2007, his winnings total over $4,200,000 and he has won three best overall player awards.

Jennifer Harman has been a poker player all of her life, and when asked about when she first started playing poker she talks about when she was eight years old and she would watch her father playing in home games. If her father was having a bad session then he would get up from the table and ask Jennifer to take his seat. More often than not the young Jennifer would turn it around for her father.

Despite this regular story told by Jennifer it was actually her mother that taught her to play cards. Harman grew up in the gambling town of Reno, Nevada and from her early days was surrounded by a gambling culture.

From school she went on to University to study Biology, but stayed in her hometown of Reno. During her studying days she worked as a waitress but would often supplement her income by using a fake I.D to get into the Reno casinos where she would earn a good income from Poker.

After turning 21 Poker became her full time profession, despite the friction this decision caused between her and her father. The two didn’t speak for many years, but eventually reconciled their differences.

Poker Career

Harman has made her name in the cash games around Las Vegas. She is well known as one of the highest stakes players in the world, and is one of the few females in this high stakes world.

She is also considered an equal amongst her male counterparts, and many people believe that Harman is not just the best female player in the world, but also amongst the top players in the world including both men and women.

Jennifer Harman!

Harman has an impressive tournament history, being the first woman to win two WSOP bracelets. She won her first bracelet in 2000 when she won the No Limit Deuce to Seven event and she did this after having never played this format of poker before. According to some sources she had a 5 minute lesson from fellow Full Tilt Poker Pro Howard ‘The Professor’ Lederer before the event and then people watched in amazement as she went on to win the event.

She then went on to win another bracelet in 2002 by winning the $5k Limit Holdem event.

To prove how well respected she is by the poker community she is one of the privileged authors who was asked to contribute to the famous second version of Doyle Brunson’s book, Super System 2. Jennifer wrote the Limit Holdem chapter, an area of Holdem where she is judged to have significant expertise in.

Harman has had a number of romances within the Poker world including Howard Lederer and Doyle’s son Todd Brunson. She is now happily married to fellow poker player Marco Traniello and both reside in Las Vegas and have twin boys.

In 2004 Jennifer took a year out from the Poker world as she undertook a major Kidney transplant operation. She has now made a full recovery and these days she runs a non-profit charity call Creating Organ Donation Awareness (CODA).
